How to Apply

1. Start Your Student Application

Click on a "PowerSchool Enroll" button. This will link you to our online application.

2. Create An Account

Create an account. This should take less than 10 minutes. You will receive an email confirmation once your account is setup.

3. Fill Out Your Application

Complete the guided step-by-step online application. You will be prompted to select the campus of your choice. An application in process can be saved. You may return later to complete it. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Don't worry, we'll send you reminders.

4. Application Processing

TMSA Public Charter Schools utilize a preference status process that gives enrollment priority to qualified applicants. Preference status entitles an applicant to be offered an available seat ahead of applicants without a preference status. We conduct a lottery in February to assign students in a fair and equitable way. Our lottery is publicly undertaken and may be attended by any member of the public.

What you'll need...

Documentation for enrollment required by the school is submitted by the parent/guardian and includes the following: 


  • Government-issued photo ID for parent/guardian 
  • Copy of student(s) birth certificate 
  • Proof of N.C. residency through a utility bill, mortgage/lease document, etc. 
  • Immunization records 
  • Guardianship/custody papers, if applicable 
  • Most recent report card or transcript 
  • Standardized test scores, such as EOG 
  • Kindergarten Physical Exam Form from the child(s) physician (for kindergarten only) 
  • Documentation for homeschoolers, if applicable 
  • Any IEP, ESL, or 504 plans, if applicable.


Prepare these documents for upload prior to starting. Applications will not be processed until all student documents required are received by the school.

We will hold a lottery from all applications submitted by February 4, 2024. The lottery is held online and is open to the public. A waitlist will be started for applicants who do not receive a seat offer from the lottery.

  • How do I apply to TMSA?

    The application process is quick and easy. Begin by clicking APPLY NOW. If you do not already have one, create a PowerSchool Enroll account. Then complete the step-by-step application. Be sure to include the required documentation, then click submit. You will receive a confirmation of your application submission.

  • Is there a student lottery?

    TMSA Public Charter Schools utilize a preference status process that gives enrollment priority to qualified applicants.  Preference status entitles an applicant to be offered an available seat ahead of applicants without a preference status. We conduct a lottery in February to assign students in a fair and equitable way.   • How do I know if my child received a seat offer in the lottery?

    The enrollment lottery is held online and is open to the public on Feb 12th, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Seat confirmation emails are sent out on February 14, 2023. The deadline to accept offered seat(s) is February 28, 2024.

  • What must I do if we get a seat offer in the lottery?

    Be sure to accept your offered seat(s) by February 28, 2024. The deadline to register for classes is March 14, 2024.

  • How can we know the lottery is fair?

    We do not discriminate against students on the basis of sex, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic, athletic ability. We are an open enrollment school and admit any child who qualifies to attend a public school in North Carolina regardless of the school district in which the child resides. We employ a lottery system with prioritization categories. Our lottery is publicly undertaken and may be attended by any member of the public.

  • Are there any costs to apply to TMSA?

    No. As a charter school, we provide education at no cost to the students and families - just like any other tuition-free public school. There is no cost to apply and no test required for admission.
