TMSA Multicultural Festival Celebrates Unity
Posted on 04/28/2025
TMSA’s Annual Multicultural Festival brought together students, staff, and families to celebrate cultures from around the world through food, music, and performances. The event highlighted global citizenship, unity, and the joy of embracing diversity.
As Principal Kandil shared in his weekly updates:
On April 26, 2025, we experienced a phenomenal day, filled with so many powerful student performances during our Annual Multicultural Festival. Once again, TMSA continues to raise the bar, and more and more cultures and countries have been introduced by TMSA students, staff, and families compared to last year.
Our gymnasium was almost like a smaller version of the American Museum of Natural History. So many cultures were represented by special outfits, food, live music, and cultural decorations, all in their most natural way. Hundreds of guests loved trying various types of dishes—from a wide range of spice levels to so many authentic dessert combinations. If Jules Verne were to attend this part of our event, he would re-write the title of his novel as 80 Minutes Around the World, instead of 80 Days Around the World... You would experience the tastes, the arts, and the music variations from South America to Central Asia, from North America to Europe, from West Africa to the Middle East to Taiwan, all inside a miniature, ten-thousand-square-foot TMSA gymnasium.
The auditorium and the performances were almost straight out of Broadway, NY. How in the world were so many TMSA stakeholders able to organize, synchronize, and harmonize this inspiring event? The costumes, the songs, the choreography, the stage—you name it. Our students not only showed their respect and ownership of their cultural roots but also enjoyed participating in performances from other countries and cultures. I observed global citizenship at its best—caring not only for one’s own heritage but embracing others’ as well.
Watching our students made me reflect: Why? Why is enjoying life, sharing love, and embracing differences so much easier, and yet there are still wars, violence, and fights around the world? On April 26, our students magnified the peaceful and loving lifestyle nurtured daily at TMSA, delivering a powerful message to all. Celebrating peace is easy, spreading hate is hard; spreading love is easy, carrying anger is hard; caring for others is a pleasure, ignoring others' well-being is hard. We all are members of the human race, and we should not choose the hard way if we want more peace islands like Triad Math and Science Academy where we accept, respect, and embrace one another for the betterment of all.
Our event was also honored by the presence of TMSA Superintendent of Schools Mr. Ben Karaduman, TMSA Deputy Superintendent of Schools Mr. Eray Idil, TMSA Elementary Campus Principal and TMSA Founding Board Member Mrs. Burke, TMSA Charlotte Secondary Campus Principal Mr. Aydin, and former TMSA Board Members Dr. Atay and Dr. Oguz.
My heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the students, families, and staff who made the event a success.
